Work Experiences / Areas of Interest

Paula Carvalho has been on the medical staff at the Boise VA Medical Center since 1990. She is the Academic Section Head for Pulmonary /Critical Care Medicine and a member of the academic faculty at the University of Washington School of Medicine. Her interests include medical education for residents, students, and pulmonary fellows. She conducts research using simulation as a method of education for physicians in various specialties, and has developed curricula for management of urgent and emergent medical problems, with an emphasis on team dynamics and interdisciplinary study. More recently, she has been involved in development of mental health-related scenarios to be used for education of the internal medicine residents, as well as conducting adult sleep disorders clinics with psychiatry residents.
